“Missing ID” (2014) Incinerated Voter ID on Canvas
The “war on drugs” in Mexico has brought thousands of missing and murdered citizens. In september of 2014 43 students were kidnapped by the police and according to the authorities were burned. Voter IDs beside human remains has become a recurring image in clandestine mass graves around the country. The Voter ID is the main identity document in Mexico, despite repeated electoral fraud and the lack of credibility of the democratic system.
