Bio/Statement:

Pàulla Scàvazzini’s practice constructs utopias primarily through paintings of strong color intensity and an atmospheric, synesthetic character, developed across multiple supports and scales — from small formats that function as capsules or poetic windows, fragments or condensed syntheses of a broader pictorial universe, inviting memory, contemplation, and a sensitive reconfiguration of space — to architectural dimensions, echoing her background in architecture. Her work is consistently marked by gestural expression and a playful interplay between reality and fiction. She investigates essential aspects of painting — color, facture, light, composition, and scale — in dialogue with the expression of a historically subjugated feminine force. Drawing on references to Brazilian tropical botany and reflecting on Brazil’s history as a colonized country, her paintings oscillate between natural exuberance, environmental collapse, and the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, articulating both the apocalyptic chaos of the global conjuncture and a luminous outlook on the future.

Pàulla had several solo exhibitions, among those: We Are Apocalyptic, SVA, NY (2025); Pétala, Pincelada, Espaço de Arte Perdizes, São Paulo (2022); Estranhamente Familiar, Galeria Projeto Vênus, São Paulo (2021); Que acalma e faz correr, Casa da Luz, São Paulo (2019); Peintures d’Intérieurs, Cité internationale des arts, Paris (2018); Interiores, Zaratan, Lisbon (2017). Her work has been featured in group and institutional exhibitions such as Meu Quintal é Maior que o Mundo, Galeria Casa Triângulo, São Paulo (2025); E o Palhaço, Quem É?, Paço das Artes, São Paulo (2024); De Volta ao Jardim, Museu de Arte Sacra, São Paulo (2023); Now, Museu Inimá de Paula, Belo Horizonte (2022); Dentro de Ti, Quadra Galeria (2022); Semana de 21, Instituto Artium de Cultura, São Paulo (2021); Matrioshka, Galeria Bergamin&Gomide, São Paulo (2020); Salon des Indépendants, Grand Palais, Paris (2019); Arte Londrina 5, Casa de Cultura UEL, Londrina (2017); Volátil, Museu de Arte Brasileira, SP (2015).
