BIO/ STATEMENT:
Ewa Opalka is a Polish critic and curator with a main focus in feminist film and visual art theory. She is currently completing her PhD thesis titled ‘Re-medium and preparing an exhibition of work by the Polish female sculptor Wanda Czelkowska scheduled for 2016 that will take place at the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture, Warsaw.
In her research, Opalka’s references include biopolitics, bioethics and corporeal feminism. She investigates the specifics of the feminist discourse at the intersection of visual arts and film. During her residency at RU, she will explore how American feminist film and art theory from the 60’s until the 90’s may have affected pioneering Polish female/feminist artists.
Recent exhibitions that she curated include” Ewa Partum, “Partytury”, Aleksander Bruno Gallery, Warsaw, 2015, „Agnieszka Brzezanska, Ma terra”, Aleksander Bruno Gallery, 2014, „Marta Deskur If you shoot one of them”, MOCAK, Kracow, 2013.
