Bio/Statement:
Chrislie Pérez is an independent curator and art critic. Chrislie is interested in the practices of women creators, whose work challenges dominant narratives through a decolonial framework, as well as those exploring gender as a critical and destabilizing force—not as a fixed category but as a lens through which to examine power, memory, and resistance, particularly, in the cultural and historical context of Cuba. She is drawn to transdisciplinary methodologies, fostering dialogues between visual art, critical theory, and other media, while asserting curation itself as a creative and intellectual practice. Chrislie understands the role of a curator not as a neutral mediator but as an active creator—shaping discourse, generating meaning, and redefining artistic ecosystems. Her research extends to book art and the dynamics of the art market.
Chrislie is the founder of the project Piso 34 to support women creators in Cuba. She is a doctoral student in Sciences on Art in the Arts University, ISA, and a member of the Editorial Board of Artecubano magazine. From 2022-24, she served as a professor at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and senior specialist of the art collection of the National Council of Visual Arts (CNAP). She served as deputy director of Galería Habana (2018-22) and main curator in the galleries Artis718 (2014-2018) and Villa Manuela (2008-2014). She has curated numerous exhibitions in Cuba and abroad, including Amora, Galería Habana, Havana (2019) and Paradigm, Galería Habana, Havana (2021). She has written articles for national and international publications specialized in contemporary art. She was awarded a mention in the Guy Pérez Cisneros Criticism Competition granted by the CNAP in 2013, and in the National Curatorship Award 2024.
Support: Chrislie Pérez’s residency is made possible with support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Cuban Artists Fund.
