Bio/Statement:

Ana Loureiro is an interdisciplinary artist. Since 2016, her artistic practice has focused on analysing the relationship between different types of spaces and their associated memories. Initially, the works produced were influenced by the artist’s personal experiences and later, included external participation, resulting in the “Substratum of memories” project developed during 2021. In 2024, Loureiro started the “Personalized Archive Network“, a project related to the study of deactivated spaces. During the long existence of deactivated spaces, multiple metamorphoses occurred until they became what they are today — cultural hubs. Tracing architectural elements and the marks of the passage of time in those spaces are the structures of the archive. In its network, the project has already included buildings located in different countries. In parallel, Loureiro has created participatory projects that address issues connected to the complexity of communication.

In 2021, Loureiro’s project “Substratum of memories” was awarded with a State Scholarship for Fine Arts by the BMKÖS (en: Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport). In 2023, she was selected by the Emerge association, and the jury invited her to take part in the publication “Portuguese Emerging Artists 2023” with a release presentation at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon. Between January and April 2024, Loureiro participated as a resident artist and scholarship holder in the BMKÖS Auslandatelier Programm (en: Studios abroad programme), in collaboration with the HIAP at the Cable Factory in Helsinki. Loureiro is also a member of the Künstlerhaus in Vienna, and the initial series of her work “Tell me, how was your day?” (2020-2021) is part of the Vienna Museum’s collection. Her projects have been presented in various solo exhibitions and in collaboration with other artists in Portugal, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, Belgium, Italy and Finland.

Support: Ana Loureiro’s residency is made possible with support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
