The 1896 Studios and Stages
Sat Jun 6 12pm – Sun Jun 7, 2015 7pm
592 Johnson Ave Brooklyn, NY 11237
By subway, take the L TRAIN to Jefferson Street.
Art fairs: they’ve taken over the art world’s calendars. Because they’re so commonplace, it’s hard to imagine getting excited over another one happening in New York. But the NEWD Art Show is doing something different from the more gallery-centric events: it’s a fair that’s fair to artists. All artists have the option to receive royalties from the sale of their artwork, beginning at a resale baseline of 15 percent, and over half of the exhibiting artists will be women. That’s rare.
The fair returns to Bushwick for its second jaunt on Friday, June 5 – Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the 1896 studio building. Exhibitors range from artist-run spaces to nonprofits. The weekend will include several talks, including one confirmed so far, a panel organized by POWarts (Professional Organization for Women in the arts) that will focus on inventive models of ownership for artists. Should be good.
