We’re pleased to announce our artist Dominique Paul‘s performance: Interactive Median Income Dress Acting As a Social Interface on Manhattan’s 14th Street sidewalk as part of the Art in Odd Places: RACE event. Paul will walk towards Union Square every day beginning at dusk for 90 minutes.

In the performance, she wears a cylinder-shape dress equipped with an interactive light structure that displays the median household income on the 14th Street, using the US Census Bureau data. The dress translates the data visually as she walks, indicating income from $0 to $200K by different light colors; red for the lowest, blue for the highest income. Dominique will talk with residents and participants as her dress acts as a social interface, encouraging us to be aware of inequality by location, race, and gender.

Thursday Oct. 6 & Sunday Oct. 9
Walk west from Avenue C to Union Square, beginning at 6pm.

Friday Oct. 7 and Saturday Oct. 8
Walk east from 11th Avenue to Union Square, beginning at 5:30 pm (Friday) and 6pm (Saturday).
