Join us for a talk with ArteEast’s current sponsored artists in residence with our partner Residency Unlimited! Dalia Baassiri of Lebanon andÖzgür Demirci of Turkey are emerging artists who are creating socially engaged art against the rapidly shifting political and social backdrop throughout the Middle East. In this talk, they discuss their current projects. Özgür’s “Anthology of Promises” is a site-specific installation based on election promises made in Turkey from the 1980 military coup to the present, while Dalia’s installation “Undesired”, inspired by Lebanon’s garbage crisis, is an exploration of the confluence of emotion and consumerism through the history of discarded objects.
