Last year RU played a crucial role in the production of Karol Radziszewski‘s documentary project entitled America Is Not Ready For This.
The inspiration and starting point for the “America Is Not Ready For This” documentary is the scholarship stay in summer 1977 in New York of the Polish artist Natalia LL, a representative of the then neo-avant-garde. Her visit, during which, among others, she had the opportunity to participate in the Gay Pride Parade, as well as her conversations with local prominent gallerists, curators, and artists, provoke a series of questions on issues such as: gender, feminist art, conceptual art, and queer identity. Natalia LL’s American adventure, as well as visits of other Polish artists to the USA during this period, allows a fresh look at East-West relations and their impact on the world of art in the context of the Iron Curtain. The documentary based on interviews with a number of people, including Natalia LL, Carolee Schneemann, Marina Abramović, Vito Acconci, AA Bronson, Douglas Crimp, Mario Montez, Antonio Homem.
Film produced in cooperation with Contemporary Wroclaw Museum and Residency Unlimited with support from Polish Institute in New York.
