Bio/Statement:
Maureen Catbagan was one of the selected artists for the 2023 NYC-Based Artist Residency Program as part of Abang-guard.
Maureen Catbagan is a Filipinx-American multimedia artist based in New York, whose work engages social collectivity and explores the intersections of immigration, labor, and visibility. Collaborations include Flux Factory, Yams Collective, and Abang-guard with artist Jevijoe Vitug. Recent exhibitions include Theseus’s Craft: The Paradox of the Real at Lichtundfire Gallery, NYC (2026); Abang-guard: Makibaka at Queens Museum, Queens, NY (2025-2026); and Alagaan ang Salaysáy (Take Care of the Story), a solo exhibition at Flux IV, Long Island City, NY (2025). Their individual and collaborative works have been exhibited, screened, and/or performed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Abrons Art Center, Socrates Park, and The Contemporary Museum (Honolulu, Hawaii) amongst others. Catbagan has been awarded residencies with Abang-guard at Residency Unlimited (Brooklyn, NY), and The Six-Foot Platform at DUMBO Art (Brooklyn, NY), and with Flux Factory at Governors Island (NYC), ARoS Museum Public Atelier (Aarhus, Denmark), and Art Quarter Budapest (Hungary). Fellowships and grants include NYSCA Support for Artists Grant (2025), NYFA-Queens Arts Fund: Arts Access Grant (2025), and Queens Museum-Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists (2024-2025).
