Bio/Statement:

After graduating from Leeds University in 2010, Pimenta moved to NYC where she developed a series of different projects involving production, video, photography and collage. Her images act as snapshots, capturing fleeting moments of daily life that candidly traverse borders of class, social economics, subculture and camaraderie. In her most recent series, large color prints evoke atmospheric landscapes. Some depict fragments of flowers and verdant fields, whilst others are totally abstract, affectionately unfolding in lush visual narratives.

Pimenta’s nimble, introspective glance simultaneously enhances and questions how social landscapes may be understood. Renderings of the human figure, play, sarcasm, humor, public vs private in a media-saturated culture, are key themes. Her photographs evoke both the spontaneity of documentary realism and the intentionality of directed scenes, navigating through different cycles, rhythms and communities.

When presenting her work, an immersive quality pervades the exhibition space, adding another layer to the viewers experience.

Pimenta’s works have been exhibited at HYPERSEX at Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia (Lisbon); Black Box: Potlatch curated by Julião Sarmento at Museu do Caramulo (Caramulo); I Could Eat You at Casa da Cultura de Comporta (Comporta); This side of Nowhere at Galeria Nuno Centeno (Porto); Escola de Libertinagem curated by Alexandre Melo at Galeria Francisco Fino (Lisbon); Dip me in the river, drop me in the water! curated by Carolina Trigueiros at Galeria Pedro Cera (Lisbon); Almost Famous curated by Julião Sarmento at Galeria Nuno Centeno (Porto).
