Bio/Statement:
Zorica Zafirovska is a visual and conceptual artist whose multi-layered practice includes drawing, installation, and design and the use of a variety of materials such as human hair and blood. Zafirovska’s work explores social, scientific and genetic development and consumerism. A major focus is human trafficking worldwide and children from the streets of Skopje, Macedonia. She is a co-founder and member of “The Art Institut”, “Frik Banda” and the female artist’s initiation “Momi”.

In 2016, Zafirovska was awarded the Biannual Young Visual Artist Award “Denes” organized by The Contemporary Arts Centre (CAC). In 2015, Zafirovska, together with Kristina Bozurska, was awarded the “Open Call of Serious Interest Agency” (Sia) for young visual artists (curatorial committee: Petra Bischof, Blanca de la Torre, Marta Popivoda and Nebojsha Vilik.

Recent solo projects include: “Personal/Impersonal,” Serious Interest Agency Gallery (Sia), Skopje, Macedonia (2015); “Make a personal plan to fight patriarchal domination!,” public art project in the streets of Prague, Zagreb and Skopje (2015); “Invisible exhibition for the INVISIBLES,” Dom na gradeznicite, Gallery Kora (2013). Her work was also included in the following recent group exhibitions: “Chifte Amam,” Biannual Young Visual Artist Award, National Gallery, Skopje, Macedonia (2016); “Like a snow ball…,” Momi Iniciation, Faculty of Fine Arts Gallery, Skopje, Macedonia (2015); “Resist! What?” Gallery Karas, Zagreb, Croatia (2014); “To persist in the circle,” Cultural Informative Center (KIC), Skopje, Macedonia (2014); “Body that remembers,” XV Winter Salon of DLUM (2014); “With/in/significant other” curated by Isin Önol, Galerie Peithner-Lichtenfels, Vienna, Austria (2014).
