BIO/ STATEMENT:
Recent photographic work decontextualizes and abstracts cast-off or every day materials from my domestic space. Rosalie Rosenthal is interested in the way the resulting images may be understood as portrait, still life, and even landscape, thereby blurring conventional categorization. Her interest in the discarded has carried over to installation. Using large scale, and an overwhelming presence of multiples, she currently explores desire and excess in consumer culture. Her most recent bodies of work, Dust Pan Inventory http://www.rosalierosenthal.com/dust-pan-inventory/ and Hair’s Breadth http://www.rosalierosenthal.com/new-galleryhairs-breadth/ , focus on a year long investigation of Rosenthal’s domestic space.
A native of St.Louis, Missouri, Rosalie Rosenthal lives and works in Louisville, Kentucky. She is the recipient of the Bill Fischer Senior Project Grant in 2 D studios and received the Barbara Bullitt Christian Memorial Award in Photography. Additionally she was honored with the Winthrop Allen Memorial Prize in Creative Arts for faculty recognition for excellence in studio art. Her recent works have been exhibited at the Covi Gallery at the University of Louisville (2013), Manifest Gallery, Cincinnati, OH, and Zephyr Gallery, Louisville, KY (2014). She is also the Board President of I.D.E.A.S 40203, Contemporary art chamber of commerce, Louisville, KY
