Bio/Statement:
Anastasios Logothetis (Stockholm, Sweden, 1979) lives and works in Stockholm and Athens. As an undergraduate, he studied pre-medical studies in Boston and then shifted to art when he graduated from The Slade School of Fine Art in London (U.K). Logothetis’ work has been shown at Tensta Konsthall, “Gifts of Intimacy”, Stockholm; Espaço Avenida de Liberdade, “13”, Lisbon; XYZ Outlet, “The Collection”, Athens; Crystal Beacon, “With Cities”, Stockholm.
With a personal biography that builds upon contradictory versions of the artist’s past, the viewer is drawn into a world of performances both written and physical. Together they create a seductive flow that brings together disparate elements and coincidences into urgent narratives and conceptual inquiries. However adding this intimate and erotic material short circuits any analysis. Authenticity gets submerged in the embroidery of facts and anecdotes, identity disappears beneath overlapping surrogates, and the chinks and slippages that fracture the whole are lost in the momentum, tending to emerge only later. The audience, paradoxically, is granted little distance, implicated by the direct address of the artist and locked into an infinite, chamberlike construct of calculated revelation and self-reflexivity.
