Please join us at the screening of the award winning film Eva Aeppli – Vive la vie, vive la mort (Original title), directed by 2023 RU alum Nicole Pallecchi. This film won the “Best Female Film” category at the 2026 Cannes Film Awards.
Eva Aeppli (1925–2015) was a visionary Swiss painter, sculptor, and avant-garde pioneer. Her work famously and deeply navigated the delicate line between life, human crises, and death. Pallecchi’s first encounter with Aeppli was sparked in 1994 at an exhibition featuring the artist…”Ever since, her art has stayed with me. Her works touch the soul, move, amuse, and challenge—whether they are paintings, drawings, textile figures, or bronze sculptures. She explored the very essence of her medium. She is undoubtedly one of the most important Swiss female artists of the twentieth century. Unfortunately, she was overlooked because she refused to conform to the art world. She swam against the stream. She remained uncompromising well into old age.”
Eva Aeppli belonged to the Nouveau Réalisme movement and was Jean Tinguely’s first wife (before Niki de Saint Phalle). Although Aeppli was overshadowed by Tinguely during her lifetime, the artist was recently honored with two major shows at Kunstmuseum Solothurn and Lehmbruck Museum (Duisburg) in honor of her 100th birthday.

Swiss-Italian Nicole Pallecchi is the Head of 3sat Switzerland, the broadcasting company. Pallecchi also realizes her own documentary films and audiovisual art combining cinematic storytelling with artistic research, moving at the intersection of documentary, media art, and visual design.
Having exhibited early on at the Aargauer Kunsthaus and Kunsthalle Basel, Pallecchi then founded in the late 1990s the exhibition series “veni vidi video” at the experimental cultural space Forumclaque in Baden.
In 2011, Museum Bellerive in Zurich exhibited Pallecchi’s video installation “Firewool”. In 2017, the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin presented her documentary exploring the life and legacy of Bruno Lohse, a prominent German art dealer and SS officer who served as Hermann Göring’s primary art looter in occupied Paris during World War II. In 2022, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart screened “Dolores Helena Wyss Wintersberger – Künstlerin und Muse (Artist and Muse)”. That same year, Pallecchi attended the New York Film Academy (NYFA) for advanced, hands-on training in documentary filmmaking and realized “Time with Andre Ricardo” following the Brazilian artist in his studio in DUMBO, offering a sensitive, intimate look at his deeply focused artistic routines. In 2023, Pallecchi joined Residency Unlimited (RU). In August 2026, new video installations filmed in New York City were featured at the House of Inspiration, a pop-up space in Zurich.
Dr. Barbara Stehle is an art historian and curator. She teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design and is the founder of Art Intelligentsia. Stehle writes about Art, Architecture and Women’s contribution to the art historical field. She has given a Tedx talk about “Architecture as Human Narrative”. Her exhibitions have been reviewed in the New York Times and Art Forum amongst other publications. “Emily Mason Unknown to Possibility”, the first monograph on Mason for which Stehle contributed the main essay, was called “Best artist monograph of 2025 by Hyperallergic.
