CELEBRITY ART DEALER LAUNCHES
NEW CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY IN CAPITAL

Art dealer to the stars Jean-David Malat is set to open his very first gallery in Mayfair, the beating heart of London’s art world.

Having worked with an array of famous faces including Madonna, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gordon Ramsay, Bono, Kate Moss and Dolce and Gabbana, the JD Malat Gallery will specialize in contemporary art produced by both established and up-and-coming artists.

Located close to the capital’s prestigious Berkeley Square, an area steeped in artistic history where even the celebrated Van Gogh once worked as a trainee art dealer, the JD Malat Gallery is a fitting addition to this culturally-rich neighborhood. The gallery will open its doors to the public on Monday, 11 June, 2018.

Gallery founder Jean-David Malat said:

“London is a vibrant, thriving and diverse city, with its finger on the pulse when it comes to showcasing the latest innovations within the industry. I am thrilled that I will be boosting the capital’s reputation further with my gallery, located in the beating heart of London’s art world, and presenting an abundance of new talent to the masses.”

Born in Paris, Jean-David has more than a decade’s experience in the sector, with a keen interest in showcasing both established and emerging artists. Contemporary and light, the gallery has been designed with a neutral palette in mind, providing the ideal location for exhibiting artists.

To coincide with the opening of the JD Malat Gallery, Jean-David will launch an exclusive exhibition by London-based Norwegian artist Henrik Uldalen: Metanoia. This new collection of 17 paintings, created specifically for the gallery launch, are deeply atmospheric depictions of human figures, painted in oils and obscured by thick layers of
impasto.

The gallery’s basement floor will be dedicated to a group exhibition and will feature the works of recognizable and new talents.

These include pieces by Lithuanian-born artist Edgar Askelovic, whose hand-crafted silicone full-body sculpture of singer Rihanna garnered worldwide press attention earlier this year, Andy Moses, a Californian artist who paints with pearlescent pigments on concave canvases, Istanbul-based sculptor Hande Şekerciler, who uses epoxy resin
and acrylic to create pieces that play with fantasy and reality, and Katrin Fridriks, an Icelandic artist who has developed a unique painting style in which two-dimensional, abstract forms seem to leap from the picture plane in bright flares and explosions of pigment.

Also exhibiting at the JD Malat Gallery will be award-winning Japanese artist Mio Yamato, who explores the process of how material and form changes over time, Brazilian street artist Nina Pandolfo, known for painting delicate, large-eyed girls, Erdoğan Zümrütoğlu, uses oils to create a mix of figurative abstract works, Masayoshi Nojo, who works with a range of mixed media including photography for his artworks and Santiago Parra, recognised for his large, abstract, highly-expressive black and white paintings which use bold sculptural brushstrokes.

In addition to holding exhibitions, the JD Malat Gallery will serve as the intermediary in the sale of artists’ works. Furthermore, the gallery is set to become an artistic hub with regular host talks, conferences and student visits, creating a public space for all to enjoy.

The JD Malat Gallery will open on Monday, 11 June, 2018 and is located on 30 Davies Street, London, W1K 4NB.
