Guy Goldstein: Time Signatures, 2014 – Omi International Arts Center

Guy Goldstein: Time Signatures, 2014

Opening: Sunday, October 12, 1:30 – 4 PM

Tel Aviv-based visual artist and musician Guy Goldstein will open his first exhibition of outdoor sculpture at Omi International Arts Center on October 12, 2014. The project,Time Signatures, began with Goldstein’s fascination with weathervanes, a vernacular architecture element foreign to Israel yet native to the Hudson River Valley. Goldstein is interested in their simple practicality, the stories they tell, kitsch design, and relationship to Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown’s canonical architecture text, Learning From Las Vegas (only relatively recently translated into Hebrew). Time Signatures will include a series of large-scale sculptures referencing weathervanes but with a dramatic change from traditional scale and iconography.

Based in Tel-Aviv, Guy Goldstein graduated from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 2007 and Wizo Haifa Academy of Art and Design in 2001. His work has been exhibited at KW Berlin, 2013 Venice Biennale, Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Haifa Museum of Art, and at galleries, museums, and art fairs internationally. In 2015, Goldstein’s work will be the subject of a solo exhibition at American University’s Katzen Arts Center in Washington D.C. In 2012, he received the Minister of Israeli Culture Award and in 2013, he participated in Art Omi, Omi’s residency program for international visual artists.
