Residency Unlimited (RU) teamed up this summer with the New Rochelle Business Improvement District (BID) to launch a summer artist residency as part of the city’s plan to nurture downtown as a dynamic urban center where the arts play an increasingly important role along the Long Island Sound.
Join us for an evening bringing together RU project director / curator Livia Alexander with New Rochelle BID Executive Director Ralph DiBart and resident artists Brandy Bajalia, Victoria Estok, Thiago Goncalves, Wade Schaming, and Stephanie Spitz. The five artists will present their projects and discuss how their creative responses have been shaped by the context of New Rochelle.
Exploring questions of locality, sustainability, urban development, rejuvenation and community planning, the residency focuses on the potential of socially engaged art practices in activating the city’s downtown as the “town common” for all residents of the city.
