Bio/Statement:

Paola Fernanda Guzmán Figueroa is a visual artist and filmmaker. She works with film, analogue experimentations, animation, installations, and performance. Her art reflects and raises issues related to fluidity, boundaries, family, and aging. Paola’s work is based on the narratives and the lived realities of her family members and the geographical distance among them. Through her art, Paola intends to bring situations, stories, and bodies in constant motion, dissolve any frontier and connect the past with the present.

Paola’s work has been exhibited in numerous venues and has been documented by different media. Time Travel was showcased at the Institute of Contemporary Art (CICA) South Korea (2022) and performed at El Retiro Park, Madrid (2020). Her work has also been showcased in: Mommy say something to the camera, mom!, Latin American Film Festival Cinemaissí, Helsinki (2022); Nanita, para siempre, Cultural Centre Gabriel García Márquez, Bogotá (2022); Returning to the Island, Project room gallery, Helsinki (2021); Feathers-Exquisite Futures, featured in ALEX-Berlin TV channel (2020); Once I met Air, Exhibition Laboratory, Helsinki (2019); Mutanttikieltä, Caisa Cultural Center, Helsinki (2016). The Other Side made part of the Prague Quadrennial of Performance, winning a Gold medal prize in the student section in 2015.

Paola was selected for the young artist grant from The Finnish Art Society in 2021. In addition, Paola is one of the founders of Kino Club Helsinki, an art film collective established in 2017 that has screened films from outstanding filmmakers around the world.
