Sergei Gushchin is a Founder of the contemporary art gallery Fragment, established in Moscow in 2016. Fragment gallery is focused primarily on promoting young, though already recognized artists, both from Russia and abroad. In addition to exhibitions, the gallery regularly hosts an educational program (lectures, workshops, and artist talks). Each year the gallery runs international open calls for artists and curators. In April 2018, Fragment gallery became the first Russian gallery participating in SP-Arte art fair in São Paulo (Brazil). In 2017, at the Cosmoscow Contemporary Art Fair (Moscow), the gallery got an award for the best booth.
Sergei is interested in embracing new gallery initiatives and collaborations based on the shared economy models – his space in Moscow is located in the collective art space of Cube.Moscow. In summer 2018, Fragment gallery was a part of a gallery-sharing program Vacation in New York, where they hosted two solo shows of the gallery’s artists — Ilya Fedotov- Fedorov and Alexander Shchurenkov – and got featured by ARTNews as one of ‘9 Art Events to Attend in New York City This Week’.
Sergei co-authored the book “Contemporary Art, and How to Stop Being Afraid of It,”, and writes a popular Instagram blog about contemporary art with more than 300,000 subscribers
