Bio/Statement:
Nikita Seleznev is the 2026 New York City Artist Safe Haven Residency Artist.
Nikita Seleznev is an artist whose work is held in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He has Komi heritage, a people native to northeastern European Russia, where craft and material traditions have long played an important cultural role. This background informs Seleznev’s interest in how objects are made, used, circulated, and assigned meaning. Working across concrete, clay, metal, plastics, found objects, video, sound, and stop-motion animation, he approaches sculpture as a way to examine the relationship between craft, technology, design, and contemporary political life.
His most recent solo project, NORMA, was presented at Iragui Gallery in Paris in 2025, following iterations at POPOP Gallery in Montreal and MYTH Gallery in St. Petersburg in 2024. Seleznev has also participated in exhibitions and projects at Jack Barrett Gallery in New York, NADA, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, the Moscow Biennale for Young Art, and the Ural Industrial Biennial, as well as with Memorial, the Nobel Peace Prize–winning human rights organization. He was shortlisted for the Innovation State Prize and participated in the CEC ArtsLink Art Prospect Fellows Program. In addition to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, his work is held in the permanent collections of the Mead Art Museum in Amherst, Massachusetts, and The Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis.
