Bio/Statement:

Dina Shenhav is an Israeli artist based in Tel Aviv who creates large-scale installations made of materials such as sponges, charcoal, mosaics made of foam, video works and paintings. Her artistic research is focused on several issues, including the relationship between the forces of nature and humanity, apocalyptic themes including works depicting destruction and annihilation, and situations of conflict. Shenhav’s works deal with the complexity of characters perceived as embodiments of evil, and with events centered on violence and cruelty, she deals with the struggle between the sides, between what is defined as “good” and what is defined as “bad.” In her works Shenhav tries to shed light on the more hidden and less obvious parts of violent situations. She expresses in her works, the opposites in choice of material and the type of operation she performs, for example, a knife, a saw, an axe, and Tank, traditionally made of hard, sharp, painful, inconsiderate materials – are now made of soft, dedicated, and pleasant materials.

Shenhav has presented her work internationally at various venues, galleries and museums including: Who by Fire: On Israel at Berliner Haus, Berlin (2023); Example to follow! at Öffnungszeiten, Berlin, Germany (2023); Darkness Descends, solo show at Rishon LeZion art Gallery, Israel (2022); Tunnel, solo show at Herzliya Museum of Art, Herzliya, Israel (2020); Not the end at Forum for levande historia, Stockholm, Sweden (2019); Merkava, solo show at Noga gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel (2019); Flower power at Circle1, Berlin, Germany (2018); D.O.A, solo show, Art Center/South Florida, Miami Beach, U.S.A (2016); Feeding, The Israeli pavilion Expo Milano, Italy (2015); The Winners of Israel Cultural Ministry Award, solo show, Haifa Museum, Israel (2013); Artists Choices at Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Israel (2010); Fatamorgana at Haifa Museum of Art, Haifa, Israel (2010); Die Neuen Hebraer/ 100 Jahre Kunst in Israel at Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, Germany (2005); Memento Mori at Atelierhaus Panzerhalle, Potsdam, Germany, (2005); Uniform Ltd. at Ben Gurion University.
