Bio/Statement:

Daniela Ângelo appropriates objects from the everyday life and museum collections for re-signify and rehearse new narratives that question the production mechanisms of knowledge and collective memory. Objects are selected in a programmatic way, isolated from external references and portrayed in a surrealist atmosphere, through rigorous work of light that allows the crystallization of its sculptural qualities.

“Far from the supposed photographic realism, these presences that appear in Daniela Ângelo’s images are nothing more than the result of the camera’s supposedly objective exercise in recording an object, suppressed by a subjective shift in its intention. In other words, what we see is, in fact, what exists within the museum collections, but rendered unrecognizable through aesthetic mechanisms that break with the supposed photographic objectivity. In this game, formed between the incidence of light on the photosensitive surface and the displacement of the direct and objective representation of the object — already extensively analyzed by the theory of Photography —, a mechanism emerges to confront the “real”, revealing its ideological and subjective character, often sublimated.” – Paula Ferreira for Contemporânea Magazine.
