Bio/Statement:
Catarina Real works in the intersection between artistic practice and theoretical research in the expanded fields of painting, writing and choreography, mostly in long-term collaborative projects that address the question of how we can live better collectively. She is currently a PhD student at the Center for Humanistic Studies at the University of Minho with a research that crosses art, love and capital. She is currently developing Color Therapy, a practice applied between color theory, postal art and choreographic intuition. She maintains a commentary practice – in the form of reflection texts, introductory texts to exhibitions, interviews and moderation of conversations – to the works and processes carried out by artists in her generational range, with the intention of contributing to a healthy environment of criticism and collective and communitarian creation.
She was awarded a grant by the Centro Nacional de Cultura in 2022 with the book Sexta-Feira, Alta Tristeza, presented at the Performative Arts Meeting at Ballet Contemporâneo do Norte, curated by Rogério Nuno Costa and Susana Otero. In 2021 she edited the book Círculo, with Edições da Ruína; FUTURO – TEMPO – PAUSA – PONTO – AMOR – PENSAMENTO – CORPO – IMAGINACAO inserted in the project Fund’Arte – Aldeias Criativas, Public Art Program from Fundação EDP and the Ghost Manual in co-authorship with José Costa and supported by Direcção Regional de Cultura do Norte.
In 2021, she was the caretaker/curator of the exhibition Comunidade at Plataforma Revólver; took part in the group exhibitions Homework 2 at Galeria Madragoa; Uteropias at Kubik Gallery and Erro 417 at Galeria Municipal do Porto. Also in 2021, the duo exhibitions Concentrados e Exposições Partilhadas with David Revés, at Thirdbase Studio and THE FALL with Lorraine Druon at Galeria do Sol. In 2022 she participated in Ciclo das Amizades with LOVE MAKES US DRUNK; held with David Revés the postal project Exposições Endereçadas – 60 portable exhibitions sent by mail and the individual exhibition A MINHA ESQUERDA É A TUA DIREITA at A Graciosa.
