Abdullah Qureshi is a Pakistani born artist, educator, and cultural producer. Within his practice, he is interested in using painting and collaborative methodologies to address personal histories, traumatic pasts, and childhood memories. Through his on-going doctoral project, entitled Mythological Migrations: Imagining Queer Muslim Utopias, he examines formations of queer identity and resistance in Muslim migratory contexts.

Mythological Migrations: Imagining Queer Muslim Utopias is a three-year multidisciplinary project that contextualizes narratives and experiences of LGBTIQ+ Muslim immigrants in Finland in Islamic mythologies, history, and contemporary art. The talk focuses on the project’s artistic components, Chapter 1: The Nightclub, a one-night exhibit that investigates the nightclub as a site of methodology, focusing on artistic approaches investigating queerness and Islam in a migratory context, and Chapter 2: The Darkroom that addresses histories of brown and black bodies being fetishized from a racially white lens.
