Work description:
“Contemporary art doesn’t possess a universal language yet because it’s economically tied to an elitist structure.” ―Josephine Meckseper
My work derives from an interest in marginalized strains of modernism, the mythic structures of reification, and a formalist critique of the readymade. Currently I’m involved with the aspects of traditional folk craft that influenced and responded to modernist ideals. This is evident in the weaving of the Bauhaus, such as Anni Albers’ use of computerized looms, and the inspirations that many artists have taken over the years from folk and craft arts, such as Eva Hesse, Robert Morris, and Faith Ringgold
