Bio/Statement:

Nikita Seleznev is the 2026 New York City Artist Safe Haven Residency Artist.

In his practice, Nikita Seleznev inquires into the place and logic of sculpture in a modern, international context. His method is based on the challenge of classical sculpture and craft in a modern political and technological context. He has worked with more conventional sculptural materials—for example, clay and concrete—as well as found objects, metal, and plastics. He often combines objects with stop-motion animation, video, and sound. He has Komi heritage, a people native to northern Russia, where craft has long been a part of their cultural tradition. He is specifically looking for approaches that allow contemporary sculpture to extend the number of varieties of thinking and operating with things in art, design, fashion, and everyday life.

Nikita has been part of many solo and duo exhibitions, such as: NORMA, Iragui Gallery, Paris, France (2025); NORMA, POPOP gallery, Montreal, QC, Canada (2024); NORMA, MYTH gallery, St. Petersburg, Russia (2024); Click, Fragment gallery, Moscow, Russia (2021); In the Valley, built in dialog with the architect Grigory Baluev, Richter Workshops, Moscow, Russia (2021). He has also featured in several group exhibitions, including Harvest: The Art of Standing Together, Studio 616 NYC, New York, NY (2025); Industrial Dry, Jack Barrett gallery, New York, NY (2025); Goodbye, Again, Gala Art Center, New York, NY (2025); Between Hercules and a butterfly, New York, NY (2024);  Extremely Shorts Film Festival 2023, Aurora Picture Show, Houston, TX (2023); VIl Moscow International Biennale of Young Art (2020); 6th Ural Industrial Biennial, Ekaterinburg (2021). He was shortlisted for the “Innovation-2021” State Prize, and participated in the CEC ArtsLink Art Prospect Fellows Program (New York, 2019). Nikita Seleznev’s work is in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, NY), The Mead Art Museum (Amherst, MA), and The Museum of Russian Art (Minneapolis, MN).
