Bio/Statement:
Rita Ferreira’s artistic practice occupies an ambiguous space within the field of representation, between figuration and abstraction. She works from concrete references, often associated with belief systems or objects drawn from historical, scientific, or everyday contexts, using them as points of departure to question painting as a language. The image is not understood as a representation to be preserved, but as something that is transformed and reorganised as a pictorial structure. Her work develops mainly through oil on paper, drawing, and installation. The works are often organised in series, groups, or display systems, in which the relationship between image, physical medium, and scale takes on a central role.
Rita Ferreira has exhibited regularly since 2013. Her solo exhibitions include Verónica, Rialto6, Lisbon, Portugal (2024) and Fac-Símile, Galeria 3+1, Lisbon, Portugal (2023). She has been part of many group exhibitions such as: AGORA: La Place du Musée LAB#3, New National Museum of Monaco, Monaco (2025); EDP Foundation New Artists Award, MAAT, Lisbon, Portugal (2022); Flora, Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, Lisbon, Portugal (2021); A Terceira Margem, Anozero, Coimbra, Portugal (2019). Rita Ferreira was a finalist for the EDP Foundation New Artists Award and received the Millennium BCP Foundation Acquisition Prize. Her work is in collections such as New National Museum of Monaco (NMNM), Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology of Lisbon (MAAT), Millennium BCP, PLMJ, and Elvas Museum of Contemporary Art (MACE) – António Cachola collection.
