Bio/Statement:

Inês Leal is a visual artist, researcher, and designer. Her artistic and research practice has an essayistic and experimental character, resulting in the production of installations, series of works in video, photography, or other analog technical media, where she regularly resorts to the appropriation and study of photographic archives. During her master’s degree in Cinema, she conducted research into working communities in mining regions and their relationships with the moving image. She has been producing and exhibiting artworks regularly in exhibition contexts since 2021, having shown her work collectively at Culturgest Porto, Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães (CIAJG), gnration, Galeria Municipal do Porto, Serralves Museum, and La Casa Encendida (Madrid, Spain).

Among Inês Leal’s solo exhibitions are Impressions of Movement and Other Barbaric Acts at ArtLab24, Espinho, Portugal (2024), and The dance of things at ArtLab24, Espinho, Portugal (2022). She has also been part of many group exhibitions, among them: Concern. Freedom and Democracy, La Casa Encendida, Madrid, Spain (2025); Serralves em Festa, Serralves Museum, Porto, Portugal (2025); Fazer #2 design magazine and exhibition, Culturgest, Portugal (2024); Ouroboros, CIAJG, Guimarães, Portugal (2024); Derivas e Criaturas, Galeria Municipal do Porto, Porto, Portugal (2023). She has received Research Grant from the Research Centre for Science and Technology of the Arts [CITAR – UCP.EA] (2024-2025), and Artistic Creation Grant – Laboratórios de Verão, promoted by gnration, CIAJG, and SOLAR (2024).
