Bio/Statement:
Shirel Horovitz’s practice is driven by the intersection of urban architecture, furniture, and the human figure. She gathers materials and inspiration from the streets to craft with them hybrid sculptures that are part dysfunctional furniture, part creature. The rationale of her work relies on the tension between the memory of the functional whole and new imaginary spaces and forms. Shirel works across different spaces and in collaboration with professionals from various disciplines, inviting their expertise to shape the logic of her work. This commitment to exchange and respect for diverse forms of knowledge also informs her relationship with audiences. Her work seeks to engage viewers on multiple levels: inviting in-depth conversations around artistic practice and art history while remaining communicative and evocative regardless of age, background, or academic knowledge.
Horovitz’s selected solo exhibitions include: This Which Is Not One, The Artists’ Residence Herzliya (2025); Choreography of Gratitude, She/They Gallery, Santa Ana, California (2023); The Right Angle, the Meander and the Star, Durham, North Carolina (2020); Spine, the Tel Aviv Artists’ Studios Gallery (2018). Her performances have been presented at Manofim Festival, Jerusalem (2024); Ashdod Museum of Art (2017); and White Night Tel Aviv (2023), among others. Horovitz has participated in group exhibitions such as Mixed Feelings, Loving Art Making Art, Tel Aviv (2024); Private Space: Between Photography and Print, the Musrara School of Art, Jerusalem (2023); The Believers, MoBY Museums of Bat Yam (2019); and the 7th Drawing Biennale in Israel (2019). Horovitz received the Mifal HaPais exhibition award (2025), the Weissman Arts Grant (2023), and the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts prize (2018). Her works can be found in private collections in Israel and the US.
