Bio/Statement:
Petra Janda is the laureate of the 2023 Jindřich Chalupecký Award.
Petra Janda is a multimedia artist moving across the spheres of creation and education, always interested in the relations between people and environmental issues, sustainable development of the outer world, and the ways to improve the environment, both external and internal – psychological. She is aware of the interconnectedness of the inner processes and of the influences they bear on the surrounding world. Her site-specific installations or art objects deal with the preservation of natural processes and life. In her work, she expresses ecological concerns not only via protective and predominantly feminine motives, but she also understands them as means of interpersonal communication. Her artistic creation responds to the current life with openness, indeterminacy, subtlety, and mystery, and relates to it by including community projects, ancient myths, and inner spirituality.
Petra Janda is the founder of the platform and database Artbiom.cz, the creative space Artstudio Lůno and the Ecocell of the Academy of Fine Arts. She has presented at both solo and group exhibitions, including “Ostří vejce”, Blansko City Gallery, Blansko, CZ (2024); “Imaginary Ecology / Ecological Imaginations“, OGV Gallery, Jihlava, CZ (2024); “Beyond Nuclear Family – Home Sweet Home“, performance with Mothers Artlovers collective, EFA Project Space, New York, NY (2023); “Going Home” and performance Vulvonautka, Jelení Gallery, Prague, CZ (2023); “Beyond Nuclear Family – Recipes for Happiness“, performance with Mothers Artlovers collective, Display Gallery, Prague, CZ (2022); “Staying with the Wound”, performative workshop with collective Mothers Artlovers, Studio Alta, Prague, CZ (2022); “Feeding the Soil”, POP-UP Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, CZ (2023); and “Morphology”, Kabinet T Gallery, Zlín, CZ (2020).
