Bio/Statement:
Marko Gutić Mižimakov is the recipient of the 2024 DENES Award for Young Visual Artists in North Macedonia.
Marko Gutić Mižimakov is a visual artist working with text, animation, and performance. Interested in the emergent currents of desire-history-body-technology, and by practicing embodied and material forms of artistic research, they explore mutual transformability—not to produce a novel identity readable by the other, but to articulate an ephemeral form present in space and time between actants. They understand this form as a non-orientable surface—a place of continual interiority, a conch shell, or an animated sequence: a visual result of technological investigation involving movement, language, bodies, and CGI. More importantly, within their practice, mutual transformability serves as a generative methodology for scoring collaborations and relations with friends, other artists, materials, and technology. In their recent performances, text is worked through an encounter with language as something invasive. The performer or artist, as reader, engenders different artifacts as translations or symptoms of this infection.
Their recent exhibitions, screenings, and performances include: The Wasting, ph.1, 2025, performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb); Science, 2025, performed at Dedić Residence (Zagreb); with this massive hole in the pillow next to my head, 2024, solo exhibition at Galerija Manuš (Split); Dragon Hunt, experimental film, 2024, screened/exhibited at Aksioma (Ljubljana), Whitechapel (London), Beursschouwburg (Brussels), Altenraive Film & Video Festival (Belgrade), Choreographic Convention: Bodies in Free Fall (Zagreb), Cinetoro (Toro, Valle del Cauca, Colombia), Antimatter (Victoria, BC, Canada), 37th Youth Salon (Zagreb), among others; some hands sometimes wares, 2024, performance with Nika Pećarina at 37th Youth Salon (Zagreb); Final Transmission, 2023, performance with Petar Sarjanović, performed at a.pass End Communications (Brussels) and Galerija Močvara (Zagreb); Your sweat leaves a strange metallic taste on the air, young hunter, 2022, performance with Lana Hosni and Marin Lemić, performed at IMPROSPECTIONS 2022 (Zagreb), qFest 2023 (Split), CoFestival 2023 (Ljubljana).
