Join RU curator-in-residence Neta Gal-Azmon as she discusses the work of Netta Laufer (b. Jerusalem, 1986) as part of Gal-Azmon’s research on the topic of the wall between Israel and Palestine through the lens of contemporary Israeli and Palestinian artists. Laufer addresses the post-colonial impact of artificial borders on flora and fauna through research, video, and photography that focuses on the ways nature and wilderness have been altered as a result of aggressive political power systems. Gal-Azmon will focus on Laufer’s 25FT, an installation of video and photographs borrowed from Israeli army surveillance that shifts the gaze to non-human activity on both sides of the wall, further highlighting the role of the border and its implications. While absent, human presence is well felt through the movement of the camera, the military communications system, the fence itself, and signs of urban structures.
