Yangon inFormal: Contemporary Practice Art Workshop
Organized by SOCA in Collaboration with MARCA.

Yangon inFormal is the Multi-disciplinary Art Making workshop with a younger generation, encouraging their openness to experimentation and change.

“Everyday we make a choice between the Formal and Informal. One can choose based on opinion, choice or lack thereof. In art one can make formal choices based on the materials, or encounter happy accidents while in the process of making.

We all seek the chance to express our desires, hopes, creativity and abilities in our city of Yangon. We also aim to revitalize our community and create brighter futures for ourselves and the citizens of our city.”

Multicultural overlapping and power structures occur in every sector – such as political reforms, the state of the economy and human resources, in order to maintain the future development of the country and also a creative and culturally colorful city.

The field of Culture and Art has already developed with its own value system, much appreciated by an audience who has grown accustomed to both formal and traditional design elements. Though this project seeks to introduce and explore alternative methods in the presentation in and materiality of art, we must not forget the place that Formal holds in urban and rural life, and certainly in the cultural life of this country. With this knowledge, we will pursue the informal view, the informal thoughts and the informal presentation through Yangon inFormal.
