We are pleased to announce the second show at ESTE: “Hardly visible, barely noticeable”, a show cocurated with David García Casado with the works of artists Daniel Cerrejón, Eileen Quinlan, Marina Miranda, Sophie Nys, Fabio Marco Pirovino and Gabriel Pericas.
David Garcia Casado wrote:

“Hardly visible, barely noticeable” arises from the idea of the artist as an agent working from the advantage point of invisibility in order to perceive phenomena otherwise hidden in the shielded surface of constructed reality. Moreover, the artist work is often based on occlusive work processes and techniques while, on the other hand, pushing towards the visibility of his or her production to attain a position of relevance as a cultural figure.

While the theory of aesthetics seems to be moving towards the apparently more urgent matter or politics, from our point of view art is still valid not merely as a byproduct of culture but as a process to enable criticism of vision and the world as designed by multimedia industries and organisms which profit on the visual pleasure and the vacuous and quickly expiring temporality of the images.

From that standpoint, the works of the artists selected for this show highlight the function of art as a practice with emancipatory power based on the inner criticism of the construction of its own visibility. For these artists, image is more a process than a final product and their art is the refining of a method to perceive our surrounding reality as a field of micro forces triggered by thoughts, habits and affections and the will for them to cause a visible and noticeable impact in the world beyond a need of a mere visual acknowledgement.
