Triangle invites you into our studios to view work-in-progress by our artists-in-residence that explore the hidden stories embedded inside our urban landscape.
Bruno Silva’s artistic process entails gathering information, objects and experiences. Depicting night walks through the cities of Porto, Tehran and New York, his work uniquely interrogates light to describe the sensory experience of place.
Elina Vainio looks at the city as a gargantuan cycle of material mutation. Collecting abandoned and drift materials encountered on walks along the Brooklyn waterfront, she considers the dichotomies of material/immaterial, necessity/excess, surfeit/vacuum.
MFA students-in-residence from the École Supérieure d’Art de Clermont Métropole—Jimmy Beauquesne, Mathilde Bezon, Kevin Desbouis, Marine Joulie, Valentine Ridde—utilize written narrative as inspiration for visual form, unearthing stories and history that determine our experience of place. Working in their shared New York City studio, they each explore mark-making, gesture, memory and storytelling to push the limits of verbal and visual language in their own way.
