James Keinitz Wilkin’s first film Public Hearing (110 min) is available to watch online for free from February 1-March 21 in parallel with ACRE TV’s online thematic show Direct Object/Direct Action.
In Public Hearing, a civic transcript about a Wal-Mart expansion is regenerated as a feature film, word-for-word and entirely in close-up. The feature film premiered in competition at CPH:DOX 2012, and was presented in international engagements at MoMA PS1, IndieLisboa, Uniondocs, Camden International, Jihlava, Punto de Vista and beyond. The film’s timespan mirrors ACRE TV’s broadcast of Public Hearing in Progress, the nearly 106 hours of the entire production of Public Hearing, recorded via security camera to VHS tape and broadcast for the first time “live” and in episodic format.
The online premiere of Public Hearing is presented by The Automatic Moving Co. and includes supplemental essays, as well as Google Translate subtitles in eighty-three languages.
