Onyedika Chuke

Onyedika Chuke is a 2013 RU Alum. In September 2014 he was invited by the residency organization Artiste en Residence organization in Clermond – Ferrand (France) for a 1 month long residency all expenses covered. This was made possible through an exchange program set up between RU and Artistes en residence.

During this residency Onyedika was invited to feature new work in the exhibition “Untitled,” in continuation of The Forever Museum series of works initiated by the artist since 2011.  By combining found objects, borrowed images, and sculptures, mostly made out of plaster, the artist composes installations inspired by the museum vocabulary to better disrupt it.
Onyedika Chuke questions the role of art in a broader ideological system. The artist connects not only the phenomena of domination between men, but also their relationship to nature. He appropriates images from common repertoires, both ancient and contemporary, to reveal how strongly they permeate our view of the world and of history, and thus establish a critical distance from them.
