Lianet Martínez centers on the three-dimensional realm, combining sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, photography, and unconventional materials. Her work uses the object as a symbolic vehicle to explore themes such as memory, perception, identity in transit, and the tension between the intimate and the collective. Through a deeply sensory and conceptual investigation, her practice reflects on how experiences—both personal and shared—are inscribed in the body and in space. She is interested in the construction of truth through the sensitive and the symbolic, and in how our perception of reality is shaped by personal history, knowledge, and emotion. Nature, time, and everyday rituals are the key to her visual universe, from which she articulates poetics of transformation and belonging in contexts of constant change.
Join Lianet for her upcoming open studio “Blossom” at the Cuban Artists Fund Studio (208 E 51 St, 2nd Floor) this Thursday, September 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. “Blossom” brings together new works created during her residency in New York City, featuring seven large-scale watercolors and a video of the sculptural installation Captive. Evoking the process of blossoming as a gesture of growth and affirmation, these works reflect on individuality, womanhood, resilience, and transformation, underscoring how art not only crosses spaces and contexts but also exceeds the very boundaries of reality.
On October 11th, Lianet will open her solo exhibition at Zapata Gallery in Miami, a project that brings together approximately 46 works, including pieces she created during her residency at RU.
