🎤 Featuring RU/YVAA artist-in-residence Nikica Jurković in the RU voices interview series.
Nikica Jurković is the recipient of the 2024 Radoslav Putar Award. Hailing from Zagreb, Croatia, Nikica is a conceptual artist whose practice centers around collection, chance, and repetition. Working intuitively, he gathers found objects, materials, and fragments that form a personal archive—a playful and poetic lens through which time, memory, and absurdity are explored.
During his time at RU, Nikica presented “Straight A Students – Odlikaši (Collectors of 5s)”, in the group exhibition Grids and Islands on Governors Island. The project connects rolling paper tabs marked with “5” to Croatia’s school grading system, layering everyday ephemera with deeper cultural narratives.
Reflecting on his experience, Nikica shares:
“What fascinates me more in New York are the people—and how all these different cultures manage to coexist and interact.”
He is currently preparing two solo exhibitions in Croatia: one in Zagreb and one in Dubrovnik.
