Meet Over Lunch: Adam Yokell, Foundwork

Foundwork Artist Research Page

Thursday, February 21, 2019
1pm (free and open to the public)
Residency Unlimited (RU)
360 Court Street (enter the Church through the main entrance)
Brooklyn, NY 11231

Adam Yokell, the Founder of Foundwork, a new connective platform and resource for artists and collaborators, will introduce the Foundwork project in the context of system-wide factors that influence the dynamics between artists and professional collaborators across the larger art community. Adam decided to develop Foundwork based on his experience running a gallery in Brooklyn and working with artists from the US and abroad, and this presentation will be collaborative in nature, in that feedback and discussion will be sought from guests in terms of their own experience promoting their practices and seeking collaborators—and in terms of what they would like to see in an online resource dedicated to facilitating productive visibility for artists and connectivity between them and collaborators. All artists in attendance will be welcome to create a complimentary guest profile on the Foundwork platform should that be of interest to them.

Foundwork was launched in late 2017, and currently hosts over five hundred artists from more than thirty countries on its platform. The company has an advisory board comprised of artists, curators, gallerists, art fair directors, and other art professionals, and its Founder Adam Yokell used to run a gallery in Brooklyn called Hometown before devoting his full time to the Foundwork project. Adam is also a lawyer in the art community and was formerly Counsel to the online platform Artsy for five years where he collaborated with all departments and worked on a wide range of company initiatives. Adam is an active member of the Art Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association, where he serves on the subcommittee focused on artists’ rights. He earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law; M. Litt. from Christie’s Education, London; and B.A. in Art History from Colgate University.

The Meet Over Lunch series is an ongoing invitation extended to local and visiting art practitioners to present their practice and projects over lunch to the RU community.
