Featuring RU curator in residence Maya Bamberger in the RU voices interview series 🎤
Maya is an independent curator and scholar based in New Haven. She works closely with artists through collaborative processes, deep listening, workshops, and shared readings, allowing mutual influence to emerge through moments of encounter. The geopolitics of the Middle East, particularly Israel/Palestine, shapes her as she explores how the curatorial space can become a site for the “not-yet”—a “third-space” where relationships are formed beyond essentialist structures of domination, without erasing or reproducing them.
On Tuesday April 1 join us at RU for a conversation between Maya and fellow RU resident curator Gülistan Kenanoğlu where they explore how architecture, as a spatial and social practice, can expand the field of curating in conflict zones. A main focus of their talk is the recent exhibition “Divine Violence”, curated by Gülistan Kenanoğlu at apexart and the exploration of strategies of curatorial engagement with violence and how to evade its reproduction, romanticization, or fetishization—building trust, friendship, and solidarity.
We are thrilled to present our artists in residence through intimate interviews and inspiring conversations about them, their works and the city! #ruvoice
