Featuring RU artist in residence Dana Nechmad in the RU voices interview series 🎤
Dana’s work intertwines tactile threads with fluid marks, deepening their meaning and symbolizing connection, fragility, and endurance. The thread becomes a metaphor for these themes, while her drawn images bring complex emotional and psychological states to life. Exploring femininity and power dynamics, Dana works across drawing, embroidery, oil painting, and textiles.
For her, art is inseparable from life itself:
“I have always been an artist. I was born an artist. My work is my experience in the world—I cannot divide the two.”
Dana’s work was recently featured in the group exhibition, “Transitory Gestures” at RU in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, curated by RU Curator Data Chigholashvili. Her upcoming solo exhibition “Ripped” opens April 22 at Mandy Zhang Art in London. If you’re in town, don’t miss it!
We are thrilled to present our artists in residence through intimate interviews which delve into their character, works and relationship with this city!
