Overview
Dr. Julie M. Johnson, Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Texas at San Antonio, presents a series of projects by resident artists at Artpace (San Antonio, TX), which demonstrate how a theme that naturally arises from an artist’s residency is the intersection of self and place, while covering a wealth of intersecting topics, including space, place, architecture, identity, history, memory, humor, time, violence, abstraction, beauty, alchemy, macrocosm and microcosm, and the grotesque. Artists, displaced from their home studio environment, experience temporary engagement with a new workspace, away from family, friends and home.
