Artists have also raised successful crowdfunding campaigns to realise their projects with us and others find their own private ways of funding themselves. Included in all our programs is support, food, accommodation, workspace, taxes and local pick ups. We are also constantly developing our workshops, talks, activities and research trips that will all be included in the program. We have experience working and living in these difficult to access locations developing relationships, trust and understanding in all areas of the community to make the best out of this project for everyone involved who participates. The costs of the program for 21 days is currently $1300 USD. Please contact us for a detailed quote/budget of what is included. We do not cover transport fees, and artists are responsible for sourcing their own funding with our support.
T H I S I S T R O P I C
An exploratory arts project working in the tropical region of South & Central America. 2015 - present ran by La Wayaka Current artist-led organisation working with anthropoligical and ecological themes.
We currently offer a residency program for artists and projects at Tropic. Here you will work with us for 21 days. Each group of artists will be given a base for working, taken on research trips and overnight expeditions into nature, indigenous tribes and be introduced to the local flora and fauna of the rainforest and caribbean coastline. On top of self-directed practice there will be collaborative workshops, talks, activities, cultural exchange and research trips happening.
We are currently working on the edge of the Gulf of Uraba, by the Darien Gap - rainforest both in the autonomous indigenous region of Guna Yala on the coast of Panama and near to the Colombian border with Afro-Colombian communities. Here we will live in a small community, isolated in nature between the jungle and ocean.
