Program Description:

Spread Art is an artist run creative Incubator designed to foster new works and collaborations by artists from around the world.

Spread Art invites regional, national and international artists to develop and present work in collaboration with the creative communities of Detroit. All residencies are ultimately tailored to the individual artist's needs and interests.

Spread Art's residency program provides housing, rehearsal and/or studio space, event and/or exhibition opportunities; and introductions to Detroit artists, venues, and more through residency brunches/dinners and additional social networking opportunities. Artists in residence are hosted at two locations. Spread Art @Detroit Contemporary is located in the historic Woodbridge neighbourhood, 2 miles from mid-town; and a second location has recently become operational, in Hamtramck, a small city within the city limits of Detroit. Both facilities are mixed-use buildings--offering residents accommodations in top-floor apartments as well as studio or rehearsal space in-house.

In total, Spread Art houses 10 artists studios occupied by both local Detroit-based artists as well as Artists in Residence; and offers all artists the opportunity to exhibit in our (600 square foot) gallery space and or to host event(s) and performances in the (900 square foot) performance venue located @Detroit Contemporary. In addition, artists have access to the use of an outdoor stage, community garden, and workspace.

Spread Art works closely with every artist to determine what event and or exhibition support is needed and can be provided. All residencies are 75% subsidized with funding from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts, with artists paying a portion of costs that is inclusive of an administrative fee of $350/week or $850/month. (All utilities included, free laundry, free WiFi). Guests may accompany residents at an additional cost of $50/week.

Spread Art is currently accepting proposals from:

1) Regional, national and international artists across all disciplines interested in residencies to take place in August and September 2017.

Due to the number of applications and the size of the staff, Spread Art is not able to personally contact every artist that applies. Artists whose applications are accepted will be notified within 3 weeks of applying.
