Program Description:

Guild Hall is accepting submissions to the 2018 Guild House Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program through November 10, 2017. The residency is open to early career artists in the visual, literary, and performing arts. The program was founded in 2016 as a means to extend Guild Hall’s mission of fostering the artistic spirit of the East End. By bringing early career artists to the region and providing a foundation for their development, Guild House AIR supports the next generation and encourages their artistic contributions. 2018 submissions are only accepted online at https://guildhall.slideroom.com.
Guild House is not a studio-based program, but rather provides the time and space for reflection and the development of supportive and collaborative relationships. The program will continue to host the very successful weekly Salon Dinners that provide an opportunity for the residents to meet leading artists and community leaders to discuss many topical subjects as well as the arts. New to the program in 2018 is the opportunity for applicants to select between two 4-week residency periods. The spring session runs from April 2 through April 30 and the fall from October 22-November 19.

Guild House AIR 2018 will also focus on the physical structure of Guild House, which is located adjacent to Guild Hall, as a place for temporary exhibition, installation, performance, and creative interventions. Residents are encouraged to work together or singly to stage environments, readings, or performances, and to further seek imaginative uses of the house in meaningful but impermanent ways that reflect on their work during the program.

Guild House AIR applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of established artists and writers, creative professionals, and members of Guild Hall’s Academy of the Arts, which includes many of the leading literary, performing, visual and media artists of our time. Previous selection committee members, include Eric Fischl, Paul Goldberger, Ralph Gibson, Stephen Hamilton Robert Pinsky, Dava Sobel, Frederic Tuten, and Carrie Mae Weems. The AIR program operates under the founding vision of Eric Fischl, Academy of the Arts President, artist, and longtime resident of the East End of Long Island.
