Program Description:

COLIBRISUR is looking for Artists in residence to open his art space in Medellín, Colombia.

Come to Medellín (Antioquia, Colombia) stay for a year developing your art ideas and vision and exchange them with the local community. An artist in residence at our space must be interested in experience Medellín, Antioquia and Colombia from a different perspective. During this time you will experience living here and find inspiration and approaches to develop your art projects.

If participating as an artist in residence you will have the house gallery as your own space for developing your work, ideas and projects, along with the exhibits you plan at the gallery space, you must include the developing of art workshops with local artists and needed communities from deprive areas (Children, teens and adults), the communities to intervene depends on the type of alliances we establish at the moment of the residence, mostly of them are with children and teens run by different organizations that care for children and teens in need.

You will become co-administrator and co-director of the space with Alejandro Naranjo the coordinator of COLIBRISUR.

Artists needed per term (twelve months): two (2).

Both artists in residence, must be willing and able to share the space, this does not mean they have to develop collaborative projects, this is up to them if they decide to develop something together but you will be part of the co-administration and co-direction of the space.

Artists in residence must afford all their expenses, Air Tickets, living expenses in Medellin for twelve (12) months, art supplies for his/her projects and the supplies for the workshops he/she wants to develop with the communities (Children, teens and adults).This does not include expenses originated by projects he/she plans to develop with other local professional artists, in this case the local artists invited to collaborate with the artist in residence must afford all the expenses caused by the projects they develop.

Additional fee: COLIBRISUR is an independent initiative with not support from the government or private organizations, to support the COLIBRISUR space and the programs we want to implement, each artist in residence must contribute 6000 USD for the twelve month residence. This fee will allow you to live in the house and we to sustain an independent space to help the development of art and culture in Medellin. The fees covered here are: Rent, electricity, water, gas, cleaning services and internet connection.

The director of COLIBRISUR is Alejandro Naranjo a Medellín based painter, teacher and cultural promoter, he will be the artists in residence host and helper, and he also will have his painting studio in the house, he won’t live in the house, artists in residence must be willing and able to allow him to have his studio in the house.
